Northern Exposure

Daily life in Craig really feels like we're living in a summer-long episode of the 1990s TV show "Northern Exposure". We've become part of the summer fabric of this place. It's an important part each day for us to catch up and chat with our friends in town and on the docks.

Below is the view of the harbor from the laundromat.

Test run near Wadleigh Island

Today we tried out the stabilizers or the "birds" as they are known. They work! It almost seems like we're flying an airplane.

Rainy days

Dinghy converted to a flower planter in front of the Alicia Roberts SEARHC clinic in Klawock.

It was raining and blowing so hard that we stayed inthe boat most of today. I baked a loaf of bread in our little oven. This evening the weather cleared for a glorious sunset and dinner with our boat neighbors. Life is good.

Setting some small roots

Preparation continues. Today we set up a business bank account and a post office box in Craig. Email us if you want our summer old fashioned mail address. Weather continues to blow. It should calm down to steady rain tomorrow.

Itsuro Summer 2010

We're in the midst of getting our boat Itsuro ready for the commercial salmon season opener on July 1.

I flew in on the float plane on June 15. We're very grateful to our friend David Spencer for his help in getting our A-frame and poles up. Dave left last Friday. We miss him already!

Last night we headed out of town toward San Juan Bautista Island aka "St. John's". We found a friend of ours in a nice anchorage and rafter off his boat overnight. Nice to get "off the beach"!

Today we head back to town (Craig) to continue to work on our rigging and to get ourselves squared away with the business side of things.
